The authors contributing to this special issue seek to tease out the performative dimensions entailed in the production, experience and presentation of space. How are Nordic Spaces created and expressed in the Nordic countries and North America? How do such spaces give space to cultural heritage and delimit identities? Starting from the premise that the performative takes on a central role in spatial experiences and continuity, we follow the tourist gait in urban settings, the successful Nordic branding of a Michelin restaurant, the new ways museums stage identities, the dramaturgy of a popular TV show and a folk culture festival. How are identities performed in the charting of immigrant experiences or lives emplaced in folklore narratives?
